2019 Donna Forand Fantastic Friends Award

Did your Friends group do something fantastic and creative in the last 12 months?
Nominate them for the Donna Forand Fantastic Friends Award!

Massachusetts Friends of Libraries (MFOL) is now accepting nominations for the 2018 Donna Forand Fantastic Friends Award. The winning group receives $300, a commemorative plaque, and $200 for their library. The recipients will be honored at MFOL’s Friends Sharing with Friends event on Saturday October 26, 2019 at South Hadley Public Library.

Nominations may be made by the Friends, Library Director, or Board of Trustees, but please note that we can only award to current MFOL members. If you are unsure of membership status, please e-mail MFOL at massfriendsoflibraries@gmail.comto confirm your group’s status.

This award is for a creative activity or event, or very specific short-term, tied together series of activities. The award is for activities or events above and beyond traditional Friends activity, book sales. It cannot be a long-term program spread out over the year or multiple months. The events or activity must have taken place between June 2018 and May 2019.

Completed nominations are due by Saturday September 28, 2019, and they must include the following under Background Information and Factors for Award.

Background information:

  • Name of nominated Friends group;
  • Person or group nominating them; and
  • Address, phone and e-mail of contact person.

Factors for Award:

  • Impact of the Friends activity on the Library’s ability to better serve the community;
  • Degree of creativity/innovation involved in the activity; and
  • Cost effectiveness of the activity; and
  • Extent the community was involved in the activity.

Completed nominations must reach MFOL by Saturday September 28, 2019.
